The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-So,
you are… What is your name and what…
S1
-I am ***.
T
-Okay.
And what was your part?
S1
-I was Mrs. Greer and an orphan called Mary.
T
-Mary.
Great! So, I’m going to ask you a few questions about this whole
project and I want you to give me your answers either in Greek or
English, okay? So, after this whole experience, including rehearsals,
performances, what in your opinion was the most positive thing
throughout this whole project?
S1
-Everything
we made was big fun as I told you and also the experience of what
it’s like to be something like an actor…
T
-Okay,
thank you. And what about the negative experiences that you got. What
is the most negative experience?
S1
-I
was really tired…
T
-You
were really tired because of the long rehearsals, right?
S1
-Yeah,
none of this was easy.
T
-So,
if things could be done in a different way, what would you do?
S1
-I
don’t think I would change anything because I liked this whole
process.
T
-OK,
you liked the process, thank you. After it’s finished now, do you
think it was worth it?
S1
-Yeah, for sure.
T
-Why
would you say so?
S1
-Because it gave a good performance and a lot of people were excited
about it and I heard a lot of good comments about it and it was
definitely worth it.
T
-Okay,
thank you. So has this project affected your attitude towards the
English language in other words how did you start at the very first,
at the beginning of the project and how do you feel now about the
English language.
S1
-I think that I
improved my pronunciation because I was speaking in English through
the play
and, yeah, I think yeah…
T
-What
about your confidence while talking to other people in English?
S1
-I didn’t have a problem with it before so…
T
-That’s
perfect. So, you think your level of English has increased just a
bit?
S1
-Yeah, my pronunciation because I was speaking in English in the
play…
T
-OK,
great… Excellent… So, do you think that it is a nice idea to have
Drama in school to learn foreign languages like English or stuff like
that, or even in class, maybe, drama games and plays, stuff like…
S1
-Yeah, I
think that it helps a lot to understand some things of the language,
the pronunciation of some words and stuff like that, and how people
talk in their basic language because when we’re learning a
language, we just learn grammar, vocabulary and know how to do
writing and…
T
-So,
this was pure practice, you are saying, right?
S1
-Yeah.
T
-Excellent!
So, in the future would you consider participating in a theater
Workshop in and out of school? Why or why not?
S1
-Yeah, for sure, because… I don’t know actually… I just like it
from when I was little, I always liked music.
T
-Music.
Right. I like that! So, for your final thoughts or words for this
experience would be…
S1
-It was an amazing experience, I would definitely do it again, and
with all of my friends from the play…
T
-OK,
thank you so much!

The
interview was conducted in English, apart from a couple of short
phrases which have been translated.
T
-So,
is this going to be in English or Greek?
S2
-English!
T
-Okay…
so would you please introduce yourself?
S2
-Hi, I am ***. I played the dog catcher.
T
-Yes,
an amazing dog catcher with an amazing dog…
S2
-Yes, my dog…
T
-Whose
name was…
S2
-Argos. And I played Miss Drake which was…
T
-She
was a maid.
S2
-Yes, she was a maid.
T
-And,
also, an orphan, right?
S2
-Yes.
T
-
So, after this whole process, the whole experience including the
rehearsals, the performances, what was the most positive thing? You
may answer in Greek or English… as you wish…
S2
-I liked the play, the musical was very great, it was a new
experience for me because I never played in a Musical, I played
regular… no… I have never played in a usual play and it was very
fun, the other guys were very nice, it was funny, and the teachers
were nice and encouraging…
T
-Thank
you… So, what about negative things? If there was something you
could change what would it be? What
was the most negative thing throughout this process?
S2
-I
would be more positive because at first when I heard we would play in
February I was a little stressed, I thought we wouldn’t make it, it
would be a fail… I would be more positive…
and maybe we would practise the songs more often because we had a
little difficulty in the end and maybe the dances to move playfully
in front, but that’s all.
T
-Okay,
thank you. It was a demanding and intense process with a lot of hours
of rehearsals but looking at it now after it’s all done how do you
feel about it? Do you think it was worth it?
S2
-Yes, it was worth it, it was a great experience and it was really
fun and I will miss it.
T
-You
will miss it, right?
S2
-We’ll miss it all.
T
-And
what about your attitude towards English language? I mean at the
beginning of this project and at the end of his project do you think
that you feel the same, do you love English more, you hate English
more or what?
S2
-At
first, I was a little anxious about English because I don’t have a
good accent, I was really insecure, but now I think I am a little
great with the pronunciation and I speak more… wait… let me
think…
T
-You
may use a Greek word…
S2
-Wait,
I will say that in English!
T
-Okay,
I like that…
S2
-…
T
-Maybe
with confidence?
S2
-No, I speak slowly…
T
-Oh,
yes… You’re a better speaker I should say, in that you speak
slowly…
S2
-Yes, I speak slowly!
T
-Fine…
and you are not ‘running’ that fast which is amazing, you changed
that one. Great! And I really liked the way you changed, you tried to
change…
S2
-Yeah!
T
-a
few mistakes that you’ve been making… Excellent! OK. What about
your level of English, then? Do you think that you may have become
better at English through this project?
S2
-I
think I’m a better speaker now and a listener because of listening
to songs… I learnt the dialogues of the other girls….
T
-It’s
true… you had to wait for them, right?
S2
-Yeah. So, that’s it.
T
-And,
do you think that now you’re able to correct yourself in English
maybe? Or throughout this project you had some times to think of
another line, to tell something different and to wait for someone
else to say something… do you think that…
S2
-Yes, I have a frame with Miss Drake and I changed it because it
didn’t match with my way of speaking, so that was good.
T
-Excellent.
What about English in school because it was a school project. Do you
think that Drama in Education or school plays theatrical games in
class help students learn English or a foreign language in general?
S2
-Yes,
they help because this is a fun way to learn English and it’s also
a way to encourage people to try to learn about theaters because we
live in Greece… Greece is the place for plays… and also the
students will come all together and be more connected.
T
-OK.
Thank you. So, in the future would you consider taking part in such a
Theater Workshop again in English?
S2
-Yes. Where I will study maybe in Thessaloniki, there will be clubs
in the University so I think I will participate.
T
-Excellent!
Okay… and one final thought on this whole project.
S2
-It was a long journey for me for all of us but it was worth it. It
was great!
T
-Thank
you, dear!

The
interview questions were asked both in English and Greek and the
answers were provided in Greek. The Greek parts have been translated.
T
-So,
would you please introduce yourself? You may speak in English or
Greek. Whatever you wish.
S3
-If I liked… Yes, it was my first play and it will be my favorite
one.
T
-What
is your name? Just give me your name.
S3
-***.
T
-***.
And which grade do you go to?
S3
-First grade of Gymnasium.
T
-You’re
how old?
S3
-Twelve years old. Twelve and a half.
T
-And
who were you in the play? You were…
S3
-Where do I play?
T
-What
was your part?
S3
-Ah, Boy 1 and The Asp.
T
-Thank
you. So, my first question for you would be after this whole
experience including the rehearsals, performances etc., what is your
opinion is most positive thing throughout this whole project.
S3
-What was my favorite part?
T
-The
most positive thing.
S3
-The most positive thing was that I
made new friends
and I met students from the lyceum. That was the most positive thing
I believe. I
also worked with other teachers.
T
-Perfect!
And what about the most negative thing?
S3
-The most negative…
T
-Was
there anything negative, to begin with?
S3
-No…
T
-So,
there was nothing you would like to change throughout this process?
S3
-Everything was positive… there wasn’t anything negative.
T
-Okay,
thank you. This process was very demanding, it was very intense and
long, okay? I mean we had long rehearsals… After seeing the whole
thing now do you think it was worth it?
S3
-Yes, of course it was worth it, because the performance was
successful.
T
-OK.
Has this project affected your attitude towards English, for
instance, how did you feel about English at first and how do you feel
now?
S3
-I believe that my English is better now than it was at the
beginning. I believe I can speak English with my friends
or something else… with someone else… and I
am way better. I have had a change…
T
-So,
you
feel more confident now
while talking in English?
S3
-Yes.
T
-So,
you
think your level of English has also increased? Are you better at
English?
S3
-Yes, I believe so.
T
-What
about how you see English at school, because that was a school
project. Do you think that people could actually learn English
through drama in school, theatrical games…? Could they help someone
learn English in general?
S3
-Of course, because if someone’s role is in English, he will have
to learn it and this way he’ll be able to speak and get the accent
too.
T
-So,
maybe you could even think more in English or try correcting yourself
in English? Do you think you can do all these things through this
process?
S3
-Yes, I believe I can do these things.
T
-Thank
you. So, in the future would you consider participating in a new
theater workshop in English?
S3
-Yes, of course I would take part, because I love theater and
whenever I get the chance I go to plays. Also, when I’m on stage I
love dancing, talking…
T
-Perfect!
You would participate in any play or maybe in a play in English?
S3
-In English too, because this way I will get to practise.
T
-OK.
So, your final words and thoughts on this whole project would be…
S3
-Everybody can participate and practise their English and they will
have fun, meet new friends… it is worth their time!
T
-Thank
you!

The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-So,
would you please introduce yourself.
S4
-Well,
my name is ***.
T
-Right…
and your part was…
S4
-I
originally had the role of Lily but then I, due to some
complications, I got to play an orphan, Nell and a maid Mrs. Pugh.
T
-Right,
thank you. So, my question to you would be… after this whole
experience, including rehearsals and performances what is in your
opinion the most positive thing about this whole experience?
S4
-I
got to open up a lot more, cause in the beginning, I think you, kind
of, like, figured it out that kind of close and an introvert, so…
T
-OK, in terms of your personality, right?
S4
-Yeah.
So, I got to meet new friends, I got to learn new stuff, be more open
and more welcoming to people.
T
-Perfect!
What about the negative things that you found in this whole process?
S4
-I
don’t think there is a negative thing but if I had to say
something, probably the hours that we sacrificed,
the nights out, like some Saturdays, for example, my friends asked me
to go out with them and have fun, but I was like ‘you know what…
I have to wake up early, go to the rehearsals...’
T
-…
study my role…
S4
-But
it’s still, it was still fun. I was having fun while doing it, so
I’m not regretting it in any way.
T
-Perfect.
Thank you. So, what about when we actually gave you more roles, did
you find this to be negative throughout the process?
S4
-No,
I actually liked it, because I really liked the songs the orphans
sang and the maids and I was, like, excited to play them because then
I would be more involved in the play and I really liked it.
T
-Thank
you. So, it was a demanding, as you said, process and intense so
after all this thing, do you find it to be worthwhile? You said so
before, but I mean, like, after the performances.
S4
-I
think from the play we got to learn more stuff about the situation
of, like, the US back then,
I learned some… like, I didn’t know what baked Alaska was found
it’s…
T
-...a
dessert…
S4
-…like
a sweet. Yeah.
T
-Ice
cream.
S4
-So,
we did learn some things that had to do with culture and stuff and we
also made the friendships, which is the thing that matters the most
to me and that I opened up
and that’s probably… yeah… so, it was really worth it.
T
-Okay.
Excellent! So, has this project affected in any way your feelings,
your attitude towards the English language? I mean, you do have a
perfect accent…
S4
-Thank
you!
T
-Did it actually make you, like, be more confident in using it and
maybe not shy into expressing what you have to say? I mean was that
your accents, like, in the past months too?
S4
-Yeah,
it actually was, but because of, like, the fact that I was really shy
and, like, an introvert I didn’t really like to speak with that
accent because then I thought in my head that maybe people will be
like…
T
-So, we got your treasures out of you, right?
S4
-Yeah!
T
-Excellent!
Okay, that means that you’re so theatrical and you had just had
this ‘hint’ to take it out, which is amazing. So, you are
confident after this. What about your level of English? Do you think
you might have been influenced just a bit?
S4
-Yeah,
maybe some words that are learnt from the play.
T
-OK.
Did you get to correct yourself when you made a few mistakes, maybe,
on stage or during rehearsals, do you think that you are able now to
correct yourself? I mean, while talking, maybe when you make a few
mistakes?
S4
-Yeah,
sometimes on stage I was thinking ‘You know what? If you forget
your line, you’re just gonna make something up that has to do with
it’ and back stage I was thinking ‘what can I say if I forget
this’ and it really helped me correct myself if I made some
mistakes in the play.
T
-And
what about English as a school lesson? Has it affected how you see
English as a school lesson?
S4
-I’m
not actually taking English in Highschool. I am taking French, but I
feel like it would be so much more fun for the kids…
T
-What
about, I mean like any foreign language, yes…
S4
-Yeah,
if it was taught through drama or singing or anything because then it
would be more fun for the kids to participate and they would be
excited to have a lesson. It would not be as boring as it is now…
All we do is…
T
-OK,
so do you think students are willing to participate in such things?
S4
-I
feel, like, yeah… if
the teachers make it known that it’s not going to be hard unless
you try it and that they’re going to help them with it, then
they’re going to be really happy to participate in there.
T
-Okay.
So, in the future would you consider participating in such a project?
S4
-Yes.
T
-In
English?
S4
-One
hundred per cent.
T
-OK.
Your final thoughts on this project would be…
S4
-That
I really loved it and I’m never going to forget it.
T
-Thank
you!

The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-OK
darling. Could you, please, introduce yourself?
S5
-Well,
my name is *** and I played the role of Miss Hannigan in ‘Annie,
the Musical’.
T
-Very
successfully, I should say!
S5
-Thank
you!
T
-So,
after this whole experience including the rehearsal and the
performances what would you think that was the most positive thing?
S5
-The
most positive thing is that I
was with my friends in the entire project,
not in the entire project, the whole time that we did the project and
I had very good times there with my friends. I
practised my English a lot and I would love to do it again and again
because my secret dream is to be an actress. Anyway…
T
-Not,
that secret I should say! I can tell! Thank you! And what about the
most negative thing may you found and anything you might be able to
change… I mean, what would it be?
S5
-In the play or…
T
-Throughout
the process.
S5
-Okay…
I’m never entirely satisfied with myself, whenever I get on the
stage and maybe I may be very excited after I do and say that all,
yeah, I’m a god, I am the best thing I’ve ever seen, but on the
other side I don’t believe that there was something negative. I ’ve
had fun with the entire project with the play, I
had real fun, this is what I love.
But… the most negative for me was the little… ah… I don’t
know the word…
T
-You
may use Greek!
S5
-Λεπτομέρειες.
T
-OK,
the details… the ‘specifics’! (specifics: word used in the
play)
S5
-The specifics!
T
-OK.
So let me just tell you something, I’m not quite sure I’m going
to put this in the interview, but I have to tell you that, because I
was so sure about you, we were all sure about you from the very
beginning concerning the music part. But I did have things… with
you following the instructions… concerning pronunciation because
you were talking fast at first and you had this very strong accent
and what I really loved about you is that you actually listened. I
was afraid of this at the beginning because, okay, you are of a
certain level, but you listened and you became so much better at
many, many levels, so I really appreciate that. I don’t know if you
have to say something on that.
S5
-Thank
you very much!
T
-OK.
Right, so this whole process was obviously demanding and intense with
a lot of hours of rehearsals. Looking at it now, after the
performances, what are your feelings? Was it worth it?
S5
-Well,
of course it was, but… No but… there’s no but! It was an
excellent performance of a school, we should remember that, that we
are a school… and everyone loved everything we did in the entire
play. We
loved the backstage phases. We loved when we were there.
T
-OK.
Has this
project affected your attitude towards the English language, I mean
how were you feeling about English before this whole thing started
and how do you feel now?
S5
-Well,
before I took part in the musical I had so much time to speak in
English and practise mainly, so I believe that keeping
in touch with the language benefits me in many levels.
T
-Okay,
and what about your confidence while speaking in English? Maybe your
level of English, okay? Everything.
S5
-Well
when
I took the exams for the ‘Proficiency” I believe that I was just
a student. When I spoke English in the performance, I felt like a
native speaker.
T
-Oh,
wow! That’s something! And what about school and English? I mean,
it was a school project and do you think that students
can benefit from learning English this way in school?
S5
-Of course, because
it is a creative way. It would benefit the creative children.
T
-So, not everybody’s
willing, right?
S5
-Yes,
because some of them might be concerned when speaking in English in
front of an audience.
T
-And
you said that you want to be an actress which is obviously correct!
Would you consider doing this in English, though, again in the
future? Would you consider doing a play in English again in the
future?
S5
-Well,
of course yes, because I want to go to Broadway!
T
-Oh,
okay! So, big dreams, right? Hopefully,
you get them! And one last, final thought on this whole project would
be…
S5
-That it
was the most amazing experience I’ve had these years that I’m in
high school.
T
-Oh!
Thank
you.

The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-So,
hello darling.
S6
-Hello!
T
-Could
you, please, tell us your name?
S6
-I am *** and
I played Grace Farrell in our play.
T
-Thank
you. So, I want you to tell us if you found any positive things
throughout this process and if you did, what is the most positive
thing that you might have seen, found throughout the project.
S6
-I
believe that we found various positive things. First of all, we
became all a big team and friends and we worked really hard for our
play
and, in the end, we
were really proud…
and, I think the most positive thing was after our play. The crowd,
the
audience was coming to us and telling us how they loved it and how
proud they are for us,
so I think this is the best out of it.
T
-Feeling,
right? Okay! And what about a negative thing that you might have
noticed throughout this?
S6
-Negative…
I think that we needed, maybe, more rehearsals.
T
-Okay.
Does this have to do with the outcome, you are saying?
S6
-No,
I think we had to be more sure, I think, especially at the first play
we were not that confident. A little bit down.
T
-OK,
but a few hours later you just ‘killed’ it! You ‘killed’ the
first one too, I should say! Okay. It was a demanding and intense
process, of course, and looking at it now after it’s all done, so
you’re saying, as you said before that it was probably worth it,
right?
S6
-Yes.
One hundred per cent.
T
-OK.
Your
feelings towards this whole show, then, would be?
S6
-Well,
I would definitely do it again. I loved it and it was the first time
that I played into a play in English. It
was a whole new experience and it was great! It was really
interesting and not only we practised our English but…
I don’t know… It was… We
learnt things about theater, about a story that we didn’t know,
‘Annie’…
T
-Okay,
so this brings me to my next question. Your attitude towards English
in general… Did it change at all throughout this process I mean did
you start…? Did you love English at first, do you love English now…
what?
S6
-I
loved English anyway, by when the play came in, I think it was ten
times more beautiful for me to practise something in English.
T
-Now
a question
that I’m not asking everybody! Your
accent is perfect and I wanted to ask you this: Did you use this
accent, I mean, like last year or were you shy to show this to
people?
-I
was definitely shy! I think this experience made us, you know, more
comfortable and more confident for our English and, yeah, I think it
was worth it when it comes to learning and being confident to talk in
English…
T
-…to
people, right! And actually, show what you have!
S6
-Show,
yes! In front of audience.
T
-Right!
So, your level of English has also been, like, influenced? Not just
your confidence and pronunciation… What
about your level of English?
Have you been able throughout this project to, maybe, correct
yourself in English, think of other lines that you might have said if
you forgot yours?
S6
-Yes,
it
definitely had been improved because you know we were doing the whole
process in English, not only when we played, but also you know your
instructions, everything, so...
T
-And
what about the way you look at English as a school subject. I mean,
it was a school subject as we said, okay, so do you think that maybe
students ought to learn a foreign language through drama and through
theatrical games and stuff like that?
S6
-Yes,
I
think Drama classes in English would definitely attract students to
learn English and love them more because nowadays in our school we
have, you know, English lesson and if you ask most of the students
who are doing it, they find it boring, you know, so I believe that
the drama class… English through a drama class gives it a special…
T
-A spark!
S6
-Yeah!
A spark, yeah.
T
-Okay!
And you answered my question now, the following one if you want to
take part in such a project in the future, right?
S6
-Of course, again!
T
-OK!
And
what about your last thoughts and ideas and words on this project.
S6
-Well,
I would definitely do it again. I
loved it and it made me
definitely
more comfortable
and because, anyways, I
always loved drama and theater I think it boosted my attraction to
the, you know, subject.
T
-Okay,
thank you, dear.

T
-So,
hello! Could you, please, introduce yourself to us?
S7
-Hello!
My name is *** and I played Kate the orphan at ‘Annie’.
T
-Okay,
thank you. So, after this whole experience including the rehearsals
and the performances, what in your opinion was the most positive
thing throughout this whole project?
S7
-
think the most positive thing was that we
really bonded as a team
and the performances were really good, really great and really fun.
T
-Thank
you. And did you find any negative things? I mean, what would you
change? What was the most negative thing that you found and what
would you change throughout this process?
S7
-To
be honest, I don’t think there was a negative thing. Everything
turned out to be perfect.
T
-Okay.
You
also had your little sister acting with us.
S7
-Yeah!
T
-How did she feel throughout this thing?
S7
-She
was thrilled.
T
-She
was thrilled?
S7
-Really
excited!
T
-Could
you please tell us the class, the grade she’s in?
S7
-She’s
in the Elementary School, Third grade.
T
-Third
grade of Primary School Okay, thank you. So, she was very young, and
how could you help her with her lines? How
did she follow the whole thing, even though it was in English?
S7
-Well,
I told her what her lines meant in Greek and it wasn’t hard for her
to learn them afterwards.
T
-Okay.
She was perfect, I can tell you that! You too! Okay, so, this whole
process was demanding and intense with a lot of hours of rehearsals.
Looking at it now after we’ve done the whole thing, how do you feel
about it? Was it worth it?
S7
-It
was totally worth it, although it was many hours of practice.
T
-OK.
Has this project affected your attitude towards the English language,
in other words, how were you feeling at the beginning of this project
and how do you feel now about the English language?
S7
-Well,
I’ve always liked English, and I was thrilled from the beginning to
the end.
T
-And
what about
your confidence towards the English language? I mean, would you
express yourself that well a few months ago or do you think that,
maybe, you’re able to think more in English now, maybe correct
yourself more and maybe
advanced your level of English in general?
I’m just asking you.
S7
-To
be honest, not really because I felt confident from the beginning and
I’m used to talking in English.
T
-Thank
you! So, what about English as a school subject? Because it was a
school subject and I wanted to ask you: Do you think the students
ought to have drama games or practices as such in class, to learn
English, French, German or whatever… is it… do you think the
students are grilling to participate in such sort of thing?
S7
-Yes,
absolutely! It really breaks the routine. It’s really exciting and
interesting… an interesting way to learn a language.
T
-In
the future, would you consider participating in a new theater
workshop in English? Why or why not?
S7
-Yes,
absolutely! As I said before I love English and I love musicals. I’ve
always wanted to play in musicals, so that was a great opportunity
and a great adventure.
T
-Okay.
Excellent. And, would you please give us one final thought, idea,
word about this whole thing?
S7
-We
had a blast! It was amazing! It was really great!
T
-Thank
you so much!

The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-So,
could you, please, introduce yourself?
S8
-Yes,
my name is ***. I played…
T
-Which
part?
S8
-Rooster,
a policeman and a photographer.
T
-Okay,
excellent. Thank you. So, after this whole experience including
rehearsals, performances, what is the most positive thing that comes
to mind throughout this project?
S8
-I
would say… everything… from rehearsals… the bad times… with
the teachers… the people that came to see us.
T
-So,
are you excited after the performances?
S8
-Of
course. It was something that I didn’t expect.
T
-What
about the negative things that you encountered throughout this
project? If there is something you could change, what would it be?
S8
-My
singing.
T
-Your
singing was perfect, I should say.
S8
-It was awful.
T
-No!
So,
no negative things?
S8
-Of
course, everything has negative things but I can’t see any.
T
-So,
this whole process was obviously demanding, it was very intense, it
was very long with long hours of rehearsals but looking at it now,
after it’s done, do
you think it was worth it?
S8
-Yes,
I would say yes.
T
-Okay.
S8
-Because during the rehearsals and
all these things, I didn’t enjoy it.
T
-Yes!
You have to tell me something about that. How did you feel throughout
the rehearsals? You felt a lot of… what? Cut out, not sure, not
confident? What?
S8
-I felt not confident.
T
-Okay. What changed that?
S8
-The
time we went to the Amphitheater.
T
-Okay!
Did you feel confident in front of the people?
S8
-Yes,
it was like a miracle. Everything changed.
T
-Okay!
Which is amazing to me! That’s a miracle, indeed. So, has this
project affected your attitude towards the English language? I mean,
how did you start concerning English, how do you feel now, is there a
difference?
S8
-I
think it was a good refresh of my English. It made me learn new
things about American English and everything.
T
-Okay,
and what about your confidence towards speaking the English language…
S8
-Of
course.
T
-…not
just on stage but, I mean, generally. Would
you consider talking to people in English now after this whole
process?
S8
-Yes.
I don’t have a problem if someone needs my help, of course I can
offer it.
T
-And
I can tell you that, because right now this is an English interview
and you’re doing just amazing. Thank you. So, do you think that now
you may be able to correct yourself, maybe, in English, to change
something that you thought?
S8
-Of
course. There is always a process you can make and I think that I’m
in a good position and I can make it.
T
-Okay,
thank you. This was a project, a school project, okay? Do you think
that your classmates might actually learn English through this stuff?
I mean, by learning, by being taught drama in class or maybe doing
theatrical games, stuff like that?
S8
-Of course, I can say theater
is
something different. You can learn about civilization, you can learn
about religion, languages. It’s perfect.
T
-Thank
you! So, in the future would
you consider taking part in such a project in English?
No just in school, but, I mean, outside of school too.
S8
-Outside
of school... Maybe
after ‘Annie, the musical’ I would just think about.
T
-Okay.
But, maybe some time ago you would not think about it?
S8
-Maybe yes.
T
-I am saying because I can see your attitude change, okay.
And one last thought, one last final word on this whole project would
be…
S8
-See
you on 6th April.
T
-Oh,
OK! That’s
our next performance! Yes, perfect! So, you’re looking forward to
it, right?
S8
-Yes.
T
-Excellent!
OK, thank you.

T

and what was your part?
S9

played Pepper.
T

played Pepper.
S9

T
-An
orphan, fine. So, you may answer your questions either in Greek or
English, okay? I’m going to ask you the first question. So, after
this whole experience including rehearsals, performances, stuff like
that, what in your opinion is the most positive thing throughout this
whole project?
S9
-We
all became a big team and we’re all now good friends.
T
-Excellent!
And do you have, like, a negative thing? I want you to tell me the
most negative thing you found, you had in this thing.
S9
-I
can’t think of one. Probably some parts in the play where we could
have more dancing but we didn’t.
T
-Okay,
so if you have something to change, to make different, what would it
be?
S9
-Probably
in the ‘We got Annie’ song we could have put more dancing into it
but we didn’t really have the time to figure it out.
T
-Thank
you. So, this whole process was obviously demanding and intense with
a lot of hours of rehearsals. Looking at it now, after the
performances, do you think it was worth it or not? How do you feel
about it?
S9
-I
feel like it was really
worth it. It is really weird because a lot of people have come to me
on the street and talk to me like ‘Oh, you were in the play! It was
a really good play! We came to see it!’
T
-OK.
Thank you. Has this project affected your attitude towards the
English language, in other words how did you feel the beginning of
this project and how do you feel now after the project?
S9
-I
suppose that I feel much more confident speaking in English in the
process.
T
-Why,
you got it! Sure. And, in general, do you think that your level of
English has probably been influenced throughout this project, for
instance, do you think you’ve advanced or… You
told me about confidence, what about your level of English?
S9
-I
feel, yes, both of them have become… I’ve
become better in both.
T
-Okay.
And what about the way you see English as a subject in school. I
mean, it was a school play. It was a school Drama Class. So, how do
you feel about English being taught through drama in classes.
S9
-I
think it is much better than the usual classes that we have in
school.
T
-So,
for instance, if you had, like, games to participate in and take part
in in-class to learn English, would you participate?
S9
-Yes,
it’s more fun than a usual lesson.
T
-Thank
you. In the future, would you consider participating in a new theater
workshop in English? Why or why not?
S9
-Probably.
I don’t know! It’s difficult sometimes to learn the lyrics if you
have a lot, but if you don’t, it’s still fun.
T
-Okay.
Lyrics as in only the songs?... or just the lines?... everything you
had?
S9
-All
of it. The singing part also had to be worked with a lot, so unless
you have someone to help us…
T
-Thank
you! So, one last thought, idea, thing about this whole thing.
S9
-It’d
be fun if we get to perform again!
T
-Oh!
Thank you so much.

The
interview was conducted in English.
T
-So,
would you please introduce yourself?
S10
-I
am called *** and in the play I play Oliver Warbucks.
T
-Thank
you. So, after this whole experience including rehearsals and
performances what in your opinion was the most positive thing
throughout this whole project?
S10
-The
most positive thing. Your support. You saying ‘you are stage stars,
you are perfect, you are talented’ and everything.
T
-So,
again, after this whole experience what is the most negative thing
that you encountered and found.
S10
-That
it
was a period when we had school tests and there was a lot of pressure
and the rehearsals just added up to this and it was kind of tiring.
T
-Okay,
so if you could do something differently what would it be in this
case.
S10
-Probably
change the schedule of the rehearsals. Probably go Sunday afternoon
or something.
T
-Okay,
which is preferable. I’ll know for next time. Right! So, this whole
process was quite demanding as you already said and intense with a
lot of hours of rehearsals, but looking at it now, how do you feel
about it? Was it worth it?
S10
-I
feel like it was totally worth it. The job that was done was great
and this could be proved by the positive comments of everyone who
came to see us. And so, it was totally worth it.
T
-Okay.
I know that you loved English from the beginning because in the first
questionnaire you actually said that you love English, right?
S10
-I love English!
T
-But has this project affected your attitude toward English as a
language? I mean, do you feel, like, maybe stronger now after this?
S10
-Obviously.
I’ve learned new phrases, mostly slang phrases and so... nothing
has changed from previously but, you know, my vocabulary has been
enriched.
T
-And
what
about your confidence while using an already very good accent? I
mean, would you this accent before or has this play actually helped
you take it out?
S10
-Of
course, because whenever I speak with an accent like this, my friends
are like ‘Why you do speak with his accent… don’t be so
official’ and stuff. So...
T
-But now
you’re just doing the right thing!
S10
-Now,
I’ve been given the chance to speak properly and it’s been all
great.
T
-Okay!
And you’ll keep doing it, of course. Don’t stop and don’t let
them say anything! Right. So, the has this whole process affected the
way you see the lesson of English in school? It was a drama in school
process or project, okay, and, I mean, do you think and then maybe
games in class and, like, theatrical plays might help your fellow
students learn English more… or other languages?
S10
-I
do believe so because this
makes the lesson more interactive and so the learning can be more
effective.
T
-Are
your fellow students willing to do this, do you think?
S10
-They
mostly believe that the English lesson is the hour in which we are
calm, we don’t do much work, so they may not be willing to
participate more… so, although it is a very great idea, I don’t
think that it will come into fruition.
T
-Okay.
In the future would you consider participating in a new theater
workshop in English? Not necessarily in school because you’re about
to finish school but in your future life.
S10
-I
do want to participate in more of these! I love theater.
T
-And
one final thought or word about this whole experience would be...
S10
-Great!
I would not change a thing, other than the schedule.
T
-Okay!
Thank you so so much!

T
-Would
you please say a few things about yourself? Introduce yourself?
S11
-I
am *** and I played Duffy in the play.
T
-Thank
you!
So, after this whole experience, including rehearsals and
performances what is, in your opinion, the
most positive thing
that you’ve encountered throughout this project?
S11
-I
think it was the
last few days when we all were together and we united and we created
a team.
T
-OK.
And what about the most negative thing throughout this?
S11
-That
the rehearsals were on Sundays in the most difficult part of the
school year and that was a little bit difficult.
T
-So,
if you could do something in a different way what would it be?
S11
-I
probably would have worked harder in the beginning to learn my lines,
because then it would be easier.
T
-Thank
you. Of course, this whole process was demanding and intense and
looking at it now, after the performances, do you think it was worth
it?
Yes.
It definitely was. I enjoyed very much the performances and the
rehearsals.
T
-So,
you feel nice and excited about it, or like… OK, no big deal! What?
S11
-I
feel excited and happy that I took part in it.
T
-And
maybe excited for the next one coming in two months! So, what about
your attitude towards the English language? How did you feel at the
beginning of this project and how do you feel now concerning the
English language?
S11
-I think it improved very much my pronunciation of words and my
ability to talk and
I learned some words.
T
-Thank
you. And what about your level of English, maybe? Apart from
pronunciation, I mean, do you think you might have enhanced what you
already know? Have
you been able to correct yourself throughout this process, to think
in English and maybe just come up with other words when you forgot
your lines for instance?
S11
-Yes,
it allowed me to think of words quickly when I forgot my lines and I
learnt some words that they used at the time.
T
-Okay…
back at the time, right? 1920s in the US. What about English as a
lesson as a subject in school? Do you think that this whole project
influenced the way you see English in school? I mean, do
you think that people should probably learn… students should
probably learn any foreign language through drama, through play,
through game, theatrical games or do you think it’s hard to do
that?
S11
-No,
I think it’s easier sometimes because you work with students your
age, it’s more entertaining and less boring.
T
-Okay,
and do you think that students your age are willing to do this in
class?
S11
-They
might be a little bit shy at first, but if they tried, I think they
would really like it.
T
-Okay,
thank you. So, in the future would you consider participating in such
a workshop in English?
S11
-Yes,
I’m really excited.
T
-OK.
And
one final thought, one final idea on this whole project would be…
S11
-It
was a great experience and I think I would participate again.
T
-Okay.

The
interview was conducted in Greek and has been translated.
T
-Good
evening! Could you tell us your name?
S12
-My
name is ***. In the play I am Mr. Bundles and Punjab.
T
-Nice!
I would like you to tell us about your experience with English so
far. Your level of English… How is your English in general?
S12
-I
am of a lower level. However, this did not stop me from
participating in such a project.
T
-Certainly,
but someone who has a low level, doesn’t usually speak at all and
you did quite a lot of talking! OK. I just wanted to know what your
relationship with English had been before. So, this is my
question. After this whole experience, including rehearsals and
performances what was the most positive thing that you saw.
S12
-The
most positive thing was living this whole experience and the fact
that I got into a role which enabled me to see other perspectives of
people as well as how some things are done differently. So, I think
this will help me with my future life.
T
-Perfect. What
about the negative things that you might have found? For
instance, if you could change something, what would it be? What
was the most negative thing?
S12
-I
don’t think there was something negative, because everything
was in the context of our experience, so I would not change anything.
T
-Okay. Fine. It
was a demanding and intense process with a lot of hours of
rehearsals. So, after all of this project, do you feel it was
worth it or not?
S12
-Of
course, it was worth it. And I believe that after
the rehearsals, even if we got tired physically, our joy was so great
because we had achieved something that other people consider to be
very difficult, that we didn’t see the process as something
burdensome.
T
-Great.
Has your attitude towards English changed at all? In other words, how
did you feel about English at the very beginning and how do you feel
now, after the project?
S12
-Before
the performance and the project in general English seemed to be an
uphill to me. Learning English was really hard to me. Now I
see it as any other subject. That is, if you study, you may learn it
and you may also advance your English.
T
-So,
did
the process of learning your lines trouble you? Or
listening to others, paying attention to what was being said? This
process must have troubled you, right?
S12
-Yes,
at first very much so. Later I started comprehending what was
going on, by creating notions in my mind.
T
-Perfect!
S12
-And
now I think English is easy, provided I study in order to learn it.
T
-So,
what you’re saying right now is really important, as I’m really
interested in seeing how a person who did not particularly like the
English language feels about English or sees this language now. So,
what about your level of English? You have certainly enhanced your
confidence while using the language, haven’t you?
S12
-Certainly.
T
-So, apart from your confidence, do you also believe that your level
of English might have increased? Through
some processes or words that you have learnt? Or not?
S12
-My
level has certainly advanced, because I am now able to speak English,
whereas I was not speaking before, so this is a very big breakthrough
for me. This is how I see it. Now I can learn the English
language, make sense of what I am reading, and even try speaking
English up to a certain level.
T
-Excellent. So,
do you think that, through a performance just like ours, or
theatrical games in class, students who are not particularly fond of
the English language, might actually become interested in learning?
Would they be intrigued to learn this way? Any foreign language,
perhaps.
S12
-Yes,
because not only English, but any
foreign language, is an interesting part of somebody’s life. It
becomes even more interesting when learning doesn’t take place
through the classic way of teaching where just the teacher does the
talking and the students only keep notes. Because when the students
feel like they produce something and participate in a group,
understanding a foreign language becomes much easier.
T
-Perfect!
So, in the future would you consider participating again in such a
project in English?
S12
-Certainly
yes. Because it was a very pleasant experience. And if I
had the chance again, I would certainly take part.
T
-Great.
I would like a last thought, either in English or Greek, for this
whole project.
S12
-This
whole experience was totally unique, because we
experienced stress, anxiety, happiness. I can’t really
describe in words this whole experience. I
believe it is really worth it for someone to create this from the
very beginning and also involve students to the subject of
drama. Especially in English, which makes it a really nice way
of learning as I said before. So, what can I say? Words will not
suffice.
T
-Thank
you so much! All the best!

The
interview questions were asked both in English and Greek and the
answers were provided in Greek. The Greek parts have been translated.
T
-So,
would you please introduce yourself. Tell us who you are.
S13
-Well,
I am ***.
T
-Which
class do you go to?
S13
-I
go to the First Class of Gymnasium. I am Tessie in the play,
which is a very nice role.
T
-Perfect. I
am asking in English. You may ask me what you want. So,
after this whole experience including the rehearsals and the
performances, what in your opinion was the most positive thing
throughout this whole project?
S13
-I got to practice oral speech very much, I learned new words
and I got to make new friends.
T
-Okay,
and what is the most negative thing about this whole project.
S13
-I
think there aren’t any.
T
-Ahh!
So, there is nothing you could actually change?
S13
-No. It
was very nice.
T
-OK.
It was quite demanding. It was quite intense. The
rehearsals were big and long, and, seeing that after the show, after
the performances, do you think it was worth it or not?
S13
-It
was certainly worth it.
T
-So,
how do you feel about this whole thing?
S13
-I
feel that it was a beautiful experience that I would do over and over
again.
T
-Perfect. What
about your attitudes towards the English language? In other
words, how did you feel at the beginning about the English language
and how do you feel now?
S13
-In the beginning I was quite stressed, yes, because of
English. Afterwards, I was feeling much better.
T
-So,
do you think that now, when you have to speak in English, you’re
more confident?
S13
-Yes.
T
-Would
you go out and talk to somebody freely?
S13
-Yes.
T
-So,
do you think that your level of English has also increased?
S13
-Maybe.
I’m not sure… Yes.
T
-Okay. And
has this whole process affected how you see English at school? I
mean do you think that students could actually learn English through
drama projects or plays in school? For instance, games in class and
stuff like that.
S13
-Yes.
T
-So,
if we had, like, games in class, would you participate?
Not
just for English for any language.
S13
-Yes.
T
-In
the future, would you participate in a new theater workshop in
English.
S13
-Yes.
T
-You
would, right? So why? Why would you say you would?
S13
-Because
through
this project I really loved English I enjoyed the cooperation with
all these people very much.
T
-How
was the feeling of working with older children?
S13
-It
was very beautiful.
T
-Okay,
excellent! So, one final thought, idea, word about this whole
project. What are your final words on that?
S13
-I
really want to do it again and participate in all these plays both in
English and Greek.
T
-Perfect!
Thank you so much!

The
interview questions were asked both in English and Greek and the
answers were provided in Greek. The Greek parts have been translated.
T
-So,
hello! What is your name?
S14
-My
name’s ***.
T
-And
which grade do you go to?
S14
-I
played an orphan, July, and a boy, Boy 2.
T
-OK.
And you are in the First Grade of Senior High School, right?
S14
-Yes.
T
-Thank
you. So, after this whole experience including rehearsals,
performances and all the stuff we’ve done, what was the most
positive thing?
S14
-I believe it was the fact that we all became one group, one team…
Even people that I had never seen in my life before and are now my
friends. And I ended up loving them too.
T
-Nice.
Is this also true for the students from the Gymnasium?
S14
-Yes,
of course.
T
-OK.
That’s nice. Right! So, after this whole experience again,
including rehearsals and performances, what was the most negative
thing you found and what would you change if you could?
S14
-I
think it is the fact that we all knew from the beginning that this
would someday come to an end. However, we still came close to
one another and now we won’t be seeing each other that often. And
this whole experience is over.
T
-OK.
So, this whole process was, of course, demanding and intense, a lot
of hours of work, rehearsals, and now that it’s over do you think
that it was worth it? Based on what you said before I think you do,
but… How do you feel about this whole project?
S14
-I
believe that it was worth it because it
was an amazing experience. We came together… did something
different. I really enjoyed it.
T
-What
about your attitude towards English? I mean, how did you start
at the beginning of this project and how do you finish now? Do you
feel more confident about the English language? Do you like
English more now, at the end of this project?
S14
-Before we started, my level of English was definitely a lot lower. I
believe that I have made some progress now and I certainly feel safer
now.
T
-What
about your confidence while talking in English? I mean, are you
willing to talk to other people in English now, for instance in the
summertime?
S14
-I definitely feel more relaxed but still not that much as I am not
the ‘English type’!
T
-And
what about your level of English? Have you been able, maybe, to
correct yourself, to think of other lines, to correct yourself?
S14
-Yes,
I believe I can do that. Sometimes
I felt like correcting myself through the things we learned and
heard.
T
-Okay…
and what about English as a school lesson? Do
you think that students your age may learn English in class if they
have, like, drama games or theatrical plays or projects such as this?
S14
-I believe that if this was how English was taught, I would now be a
professor of English at university! It was very helpful and enjoyable
at the same time as a lesson.
T
-OK.
So, in the future, would you consider taking part in a similar
project?
S14
-Yes,
of course! It was amazing, so I would gladly do it again.
T
-OK.
And what about your final thoughts on this whole thing?
S14
-I
am really sorry it’s over. It was a unique experience. It
really made me want to take part in the next performance too.
T
-OK.
Thank you!

The
interview was conducted in English, although some Greek phrases were
used which have been translated.
T
-Please
introduce yourself.
S15
-I’m
***. I am fourteen years old.
T
-Okay.
What was your part in the performance?
S15
-I
was Sally.
T
-You
were Sally, who was an…
S15
-One
of the orphans
T
-Excellent.
So, after this whole experience, including rehearsals and
performances and stuff like that, what would you say was the most
positive thing in the whole project?
S15
-I
think that we were a perfect team
because we communicated
like we were for a lot of years together.
T
-Oh,
that’s good to say! Thank
you. And what about the negative things? What did you find to be
negative and what would you change if you had the chance to?
S15
-Nothing
was negative, but I think that we could make more performance in
order for people to see what we have done.
T
-Okay.
Excellent. So, this whole process was quite demanding and intense,
with a lot of hours of practice and rehearsals. Looking at it now,
after it’s gone, do you think it was worth it?
S15
-Yes,
and I would do it again.
T
-Okay.
So how do you feel about the whole thing? How do you feel about it?
S15
-I’m
proud of being in this team and I think that more people could do
that, as it is fun.
T
-Fine.
Thank you. So, has this project affected your attitude towards the
English language? I mean, how did you start concerning the English
language and how do you feel now about the English language?
S15
-I
don’t know.
I think that…
T
-Did you like the English language before we started this project?
S15
-Yes,
but now I have more experience and I learned more words and stuff
like that.
T
-Excellent!
So, do
you think that your level of English has been influenced
throughout the project, as you said before?
S15
-Yes,
I think because we communicated in English.
T
-So,
you’re more confident now while talking in English? Can you correct
yourself for example now, can
you think more in English now?
S15
-Yes,
but I’m not the best, but I know some more words.
T
-Thank
you darling. So, has this whole process affected the way you see the
lesson of English in school? I mean, do you think that drama in
education, theaters in education are a good way to learn English or
other foreign languages in school?
S15
-Yes,
because in school we are taught English like a language, and that
experience made me think that and it is more fun and more interesting
than I thought.
T
-So,
if we
had like drama
games
in class or things that help you practise English in class, would you
participate in those?
S15
-Yes,
because they make
you better.
T
-Excellent,
thank
you. In the future, would you consider participating in such a
workshop, in English of course? Not just in school but, like, in your
life.
S15
-Yes,
because the
experience is so big that nothing can change it.
T
-Okay.
So, one last question… Actually, I want you to give me your final
thoughts, experiences, words, ideas on this whole project. Just in a
few words tell me something about this whole project.
S15
-It
was exquisite!
T
-Yeah!
Is that a new word you learnt?
S15
-Yes!
From the show.
T
-Okay.
So, it was exquisite! Thank you, dear! You have been exquisite too!

The
interview questions were asked both in English and Greek and the
answers were provided in Greek. The Greek parts have been translated.
T
-After
this whole experience, including rehearsals and performances, what in
your opinion is the most positive thing throughout this whole
project? You may use Greek for your answer.
S16
-I really enjoyed the friendships we made with the kids. The
applause of the audience in the end. Even when we mixed our lines up,
it was still nice. It was fun.
T
-Okay.
You could correct this, right?
S16
-Yes.
I also enjoyed the rehearsals despite the cold…
T
-What
we forgot to say is that you are *** and you were acting as… What
was your character?... Annie! You were Annie, right? OK. Is that all
with the positive things?
S16
-Yes.
T
-Now,
the same question but I want you to tell me the negative ones. What
was negative about this project?
S16
-My
wig in the beginning but then I got used to it. I don’t think
there was anything negative.
T
-So,
there’s nothing you would like to be different or changed.
S16
-No.
T
-OK.
So, this whole process was quite demanding and intense with a lot of
hours of rehearsals. Looking at it now, do you think it was
worth it or not?
S16
-It
was really worth it. Now I will be bored on Sundays because we won’t
have rehearsals.
T
-So,
how do you feel about the whole thing... About the whole idea?
S16
-I
really liked it. If I could, I would have a performance every
day.
T
-So,
you felt nice about it, right?
S16
-Yes.
T
-Another
question is… Has this project affected your attitude towards the
English language? In other words, how did you feel at the
beginning of this project and how do you feel now about the English
language?
S16
-I never thought I would make it with English. But then I got
used to it. Now, whenever I go to my private school and do
Vocabulary exercises, I remember some words from the performance and
I learn them more easily.
T
-Perfect.
So, this whole thing facilitated you. And do you also feel more
confident to speak Englsih now? Or maybe correct yourself?
S16
-I
can correct myself, yes, but…
T
-For
instance, if you were abroad, would it be easier for you to
communicate in English with someone? To give directions or anything?
Or would you say it’s too soon?
S16
-I would probably say things better but I don’t think I am that
good at giving directions yet.
T
-You’re
very good, that’s for sure! I am not quite certain if you are
confident about yourself. You were confident on stage, however,
for sure. So, you think that your level of English has increased
just a bit because of this, right?
S16
-Yes.
T
-Fine. What
about English in school? Do you think that this whole process
affected how you see English at school? Because it was a project
in school… so, do you think that educational drama can actually
help learning English in school? Maybe even with games in class,
theatrical games…
S16
-Yes,
because drama
is a very interesting activity, let alone in English which is both
original and a good way of learning as I told you before. I learned
this way. I believe it would be very nice for this to happen all
the time.
T
-Perfect!
So, in the future would you consider participating in a similar
project in a theater workshop in English? Either in school or out of
the school? Why or why not?
S16
-Yes. I
would to it in any language.
T
-Amazing!
So, this helped with other languages too! Right. Do you mean
English, Greek, German and whatever!
S16
-Yes.
T
-Wonderful!
So... For the end, I want you to tell me one last thing, or thought
that comes to mind about this whole project.
S16
-I wish these performances, which take place in schools, never stop!
T
-That’s
so nice!
